JOYCESVOICES
Digital video 4:3, color, sound, 23min, 2014 – 2015
Experimental documentary retracing an evening of readings from James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake, by a group of regular readers at Sweny’s old chemist shop, home of several events related to the writer, in the centre of Dublin.
These voices, more joycean than dublinese are put together with images that are either synchronised (at the Palace Bar, host of The Wake), side by side (the same readers are to be seen in other places of both the city and the book’s map) and one after the other (attraction elements punctuate the montage and relate more directly to the text).
Born from an encounter with this group, who gathers weekly to read, page by page, starting over again and again and maintaining alive and aloud one of the most remarkable works of the 20th century.
